Hi, my name is David Barr Kirtley, and I'm an author. My short fiction appears in magazines such as Realms of Fantasy and Weird Tales, in anthologies such as Fantasy: The Best of the Year, New Voices in Science Fiction, and The Living Dead, and on podcasts such as Escape Pod and Pseudopod.

I also draw a bit, as you can see.

It's always a big thrill for me to get fan art for one of my stories. (One terrific example is Jandan's illustration for my short story "The Skull-Faced Boy," which is how I found out about deviantART. See it here: songficcer.deviantart.com/art/… If anyone on this site wants to do a piece based on something I wrote, be sure to let me know. I'll post your work on my blog, which gets a fair amount of traffic these days, including a lot of people I know who work in fantasy/science fiction publishing.

My website is at www.davidbarrkirtley.com, where you can read several of my stories for free. Thanks!

You're welcome! It really is a terrific piece, one of the best I've ever seen at capturing the pure feel of Book of the New Sun -- the surreal, dreamlike ambience, the sense of timelessness and countless layers of forgotten history, the mournful, elegiac quality, the coldness and alieness. And the details are all correct too -- the terraformed moon, the stars visible by day, the derelict starships used as towers. Great stuff.

You're welcome! It's a striking piece -- a dramatic, distinctive scene done with clean lines and vivid colors. Great stuff.

You're welcome! It's a terrific drawing, and brings back memories. Heretic is great, and Heretic 2 is a sadly neglected masterpiece. I hope the series makes a comeback someday.

omg, you and me both XD

I love Heretic II, I made a huge gothic cathedral map on there using revamped textures to evoke the original Heretic maps... it was beautiful. I might have to take some snapshots and post them in my scraps some day.

Your map sounds cool. Let me know if you post screenshots. I also wish someone would post a Let's Play video of Heretic II. There's one on YouTube, but it's with the game being run in software mode, and it looks like crap. So many great set pieces in that game -- the Celestial Watcher, the swamp level, the insect burrow, etc.
